Intermediate Ceramics: Throwing Vase Forms (3-week class)

Master refined wheel-throwing techniques as you craft elegant, heirloom-quality pottery designed to be cherished for generations.

$275

This intermediate wheel-throwing class is designed for students who are beyond the introductory level, who are comfortable centering and pulling and are ready to refine their skills through the focused exploration of vase forms. Participants will work on creating balanced, intentional silhouettes while practicing techniques for altering height, controlling wall thickness, and shaping necks, shoulders, and rims. Instruction will emphasize proportion, surface refinement, and thoughtful design, with demonstrations on trimming, collaring, and subtle form adjustments to enhance both function and aesthetics. By the end of the class, students will leave with at least 2 finished vases and a deeper understanding of how form and technique work together to create elegant, expressive ceramic pieces.

This is a 3-class series, with each session scheduled for the same day/time over a 3-week period. Following the 3rd week, students may book a glazing session during Open Studio hours to glaze their own pieces. Alternatively, staff can glaze them with student chosen colors.

Requirements for taking this course:

Must have taken at least one introductory course with North Bend Pottery, or with another pottery studio. Must know how to get started on the wheel independently and can center and pull walls without instructor assistance.
